What is hospice care?
These services are extended to terminally ill individuals and their families. Generally offered to individuals with a life expectancy of six or fewer months, hospice care can be arranged in a private home or within a senior housing or care community.
Hospice helps keep a quality of life while managing pain, assisting with emotional and psychological support and managing care and related services. Hospice also supports the family, as well as the patient's network of friends.
Hospice in a hospital or specifically designed hospice facility is possible for people who are nearing the very end stages of life; however, most hospice services are arranged in the place where the person is currently living, whether it be their own home, apartment or a senior living or care community.
